reading glasses

I have had reading glasses
 since September of 2011.

No, they are NOT prescription glasses. They are just magnifiers, because I'm getting old.

I only wear my glasses when I read things with smaller print.
I do read quite a bit.
I use my glasses when I read books.
or ingredients lists, & labels.

This is me at my city library.

Notice the Texas flag,
the city flag, &
a U.S.A. flag.

Today I'm linking up to
Thursdays are for Thrifters

My skirt and shoes are thrifted.

Can you see what the wind did to my hair?

My purse & blouse are thrifted.

...She loved the process of finding a book through rational process, only to open the pages and be caught in the memories of the person she had been when she first read it....
from Joy for Beginners by Erica Baurmeister

Here I'm trying to show
that the hemline,
of my skirt, is asymmetrical.

...up to the see the ceiling covered in a mosaic of glittering blues and yellows, a universe made of glass. She had never seen anything like it and it made her stop awestruck, wishing only that memories were solid objects that you could carry with you...from Joy for Beginners by Erica Baurmeister

Here I'm trying to show the heart print on the blouse.

Another art journal page
That is my meaning of spring.
My drawing of a tree,
from who knows when.

...As if to mirror the process going on inside,
she had been overwhelmed
with an almost desperate need to purify her life-

plowing through the closets and shelves of her house, cleaning out fashions she no longer cared about or fit into, books she never intended to read;

odd condiments and dusty spice used once years ago. It was, in a strange way, like going back to the girl she had once been, who was strong, and spare and didn't have things. Or maybe it was just that if you didn't have things, they couldn't be taken away...

into the blind unknown

I'm linking up to Thursdays are for Thrifters.

This was a large skirt I found at the thrift store.
Then I asked my mom to resew it my size.

Orange bracelet: dollar store
Green & black bracelet: handmade by a friend

Green blue & bracelet: handmade by mom
Orange, & white bracelet: handmade by my cousin

My cousin made my guitar pick earrings,
as shown here.

I got this purse from my sister n-law.
My mom made the bracelet.

I made the black fused glass charm,
in jewelry class, photos shown here.

My shoes are thrifted.

The problem with this skirt is it's sheer.
That means I have to wear leggings with it.

I hand painted my leggings.
I was attempting to make them,
 resemble colorful flowers.

Art Journal pgs.

There I am minus make-up.
I'm wearing my Against Me! concert t-shirt.

We've seen the band Against Me!,
in concert 3 times.

This photo is when we saw them at
Warped Tour here in 2008.

This photo is from when we saw them in 2010.
There are more photos from that concert here.

Cavalier Eternal is one of my fave songs by them.

These are my favorite lyrics from the song:
..."Me and this guitar
are going swinging
blind into the unknown.

You know, a song and a stage
is all I ever needed of a home.

Someday I will call from a payphone
in a truckstop on the road

and you'll tell me how much better off
you've been on your own."...

sorta like a joke

Today
I'm linking up with

Thursdays are for Thrifters.

...four-leaf clover: A
miracle, mutation, or
happy accident?...
My belt is thrifted.

...outside my window
sparrow makes a nest out of
what I threw away...

My blouse is thrifted.
True confession: The only make-up I am wearing,
in these photos is lipstick & eyeliner.

..."Why do some people go through life never knowing a single major tragedy, and then others have horrible things happen to them
 over and over again?"
"I don't know."...
These earrings were once only pale blue.
Then I repainted them to shades of blue.

..."Do you believe I was a pretty good person before my mother died?"
"I know it. You are still a good person."
"So it doesn't matter if we are good or not-bad things will still happen to us regardless?"
   "Yes."
   "Why?"
   "I don't know."...

..."Why do you keep coming here every day?"
"Because you are worth visiting."
"Why?"
"Because you will come through this and be stronger on the outside.  You will help people again someday."
"Do you really believe that?"
"Yes it's inevitable."

Why do you need to come if it's inevitable?"
"No need. I want to be here when you are reborn-when you finally come through this and are stronger for it."

"Is that why bad things happen- to make us stronger?"
"Maybe, but truthfully- I don't know."...

..."There is nothing we can do to bring them back, but we can honor their memory by moving forward."...

..."But I don't think I can go back
to being who I used to be."
"Who were you?"
"Princess of Hope."
"You were, are, and still will always be a hopeful person,
 until you die."
"Why do you say that to me? Even now when you know I've got nothing left why do you put that on me?"

"Because I have faith, and it is riding on the Princess of Hope.
I believe in you... I've seen your star powers"...
"Don't do that to me."
"What?"
"Put your faith in me. I can't take that kind of pressure now, okay?
I just can't take it!"
...flowers are in the
ground, where we cannot see the
future wonderment...

what garden?

All I see are weeds. ;)
Today I'm linking up to Thursdays are for Thrifters.

...There was only one beautiful rose that came up through the wreckage, thick with thorns...

..."I bet you haven't sat and observed every wave and every cloud, every blade of grass, and flower?...

My blouse is thrifted.

..."You are made of better things than that."
"What things might they be?"...
"I don't know, but we'll discover them together.
That will be the fun of it."...

My skirt is thrifted.
Yes, my nails are still painted gold.

..."Most of the time we race through life
with our eyes closed in endless thought"...

...Like a tree in winter she had remained frozen until spring had revealed little green shoots, and finally blossoms, and she had grown strong...

...heartfelt as full as a bag of sunshine...

...The sun hung low in the west, turning the sky a translucent pink and throwing inky green shadows across the grass. Crickets and roosting birds squabbled noisily as they positioned themselves for the night. The scents of pine and eucalyptus hung  thickly in the humid air...
Last night was dinner with some of my friends.

..."I love you for your patience, your compassion, and the fact that you have always loved me, in spite of knowing there was a depth in me that I would never let you reach"...

...Memories buried deep beneath the rubble surfaced again like flowers, finding their way through the debris into the light where she feasted on them nostalgically...

..."I can take the important things with me."
Because all the important things have been with me all along...

we'll drive backwards

Guess what day it is?
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Tis'
Thursdays are for Thriftersand this girl is linking up.
My skirt is thrifted. You've seen it before here.

 Economics Teacher: Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
Simone: Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night.
 I guess it's pretty serious.

Economics Teacher: Thank you, Simone.
Simone: No problem whatsoever.

Economics TeacherThis is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone?
Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.

My cousin made most of my bracelets.
Details found here.

Boy in Police Station: What's your name?
Jeannie: It's Jean, but most guys call me Shauna.
Boy in Police Station: Okay, Jean.

My shoes are thrifted.

Ferris
: Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop
and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

My blouse is thrifted.

Ferris: Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off.

You saw these tights last week here.

Ed Rooney
: I don't trust this kid any further than I can throw him.
Grace: Well with your bad knee Ed, you shouldn't throw anybody...
Its true.

John Hughes commentary - The Museum scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Ferris:You fake a stomach cramp, and when you're bent over, moaning and wailing, you lick your palms.

It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so is high school.
