outside sculptures

We thought we were going to see the butterfly garden, but apparently that isn't until next year.
Instead we admired outside sculptures. Finally we had to quit enjoying the botanical gardens because my allergies went nuts.

wondering

Are they feathers
           or
are they wings?

J took all these photos.

In our yard

These are images John took in our yard last weekend.  He has such an eye for capturing moments of nature’s beauty.

material/object

Last weekend we went to some art exhibits. The artist Fred Spaulding is explaining the process of his work.

He was asking the question "What if a part was linear?"  He said he "assembled into group exploration of linear parts. What your mind might look like on the inside, a connection of things."

This is Charmel's favorite piece it's called Trickle. What we find fascinating about it is all the strange reflections of your self when you look into it.

The rusted piece on the right is called Loops by Fred Spaulding.

The piece on the left is by Chris Powell who was one of the art instructors from the class I took at the Modern.

Last two pieces are by Nicholas Wood

the moon

A couple weeks ago after class, I look up at the night sky, and there is the moon. Shining  above me looking glorious. Amazing me.

In your heart

Details

"She juggled hearts over her head, brand new hearts so blood red, her lover had performed his tricks with darts. But she topled him with her chest of spare hearts."

"Kawliga was a wooden Indian standing by the door. He fell in love with an Indian maiden over in the antique store. Kawliga just stood."

I say life is too short to just stand
Don't be Kawliga.  :)

Spring

“Springtime is the land awakening the march winds are the morning yawn.”

He brought my favorite flower to me. No, he didn’t pick it from someone else’s yard. He found it lying on the ground, which makes me like it even more.

Trebuchet

I believe in supporting musicians, but I’m not paying $15.00 for a cd. I’m in a recession. Even if the music is good.

The Dead Twins

He looks like a punk boy playing in a rock band.
Mohawk growing, dressed in black,
Combat boots and hanging chain

She’s in the middle front row
She can’t take her eyes off the bass player
She keeps touching  her hair
Either she simply wants him
Or he’s already hers

The Peacemaker

For a girl who likes to rock, you hooked me with your acoustic set. Half your band. Sick or not. Bonus points for making me laugh. Isn’t face melting solo a line from School of Rock? I am a Jack Black fan. Except maybe in that dumb King Kong movie.

Automatic Love Letter

Automatic Love Letter has the strong girl singer, tight jeans, high heeled black boots, lots of necklaces, and heavy eye make-up. Last time I saw her she showed us how she bled on her guitar, all in the name of Rock. The drummer is wearing a Pink Floyd shirt and on his drum the word that shows he has a sense of humor. The guy playing the Fender, covered in stickers. Yeah he’s a funny guy too, but he’s a little dirty. Telling us what he thinks and wants us to do.

The group boys, in the crowd, all friends head banging together, at the same time. One of the guys is wearing a t shirt I own. They lift their friend on a chair. Raising him to the beat. We’re not worthy they tell the girl singer. She has them move to the front. She asks them what they’re on. “Rock” they say. “Rock and Roll” and I believe them, cause we’re all high on the music.

the color of may

The Color of May has beautiful name. What I loved most was the Les Paul I saw him playing. Midnight turquoise blue with glitter, stunning. Lots of vibrato and cool Hendrix thumb move. I want that guitar! After their set, he said I could have it, and he let me touch it, but I knew he was only playing. There is no way he’s giving up that guitar!

A Cursive Memory

I love A Cursive Memory.

Their chemistry onstage,

telling jokes,

playing for fun,

everyone there is invited

 to the party.

 It was my third time

seeing them,

and I’ll go see them again.

Ice Skating

I love to ice skate. To me it’s the closest thing to flying. Listening to cool music, watching people in their own spaces and pathways. Being aware of this space trying not to crash into each other. Sometimes we do. They fall, pick themselves up, and start over. There are gliding dancers on the ice, practicing their moves. Others clutch at the walls barely moving. There are couples skating together. Parents encouraging their children. Groups of friends laughing and playing. Teenagers flirting and playing chase. Just cause I love it doesn’t mean I’m any good at it, but I do it anyway..
John only went around the rink twice. He even traded skates, but he was having feet issues. As they say in Texas "Bless his heart!"

This time I didn’t even wear a helmet. Talk about feeling free.
