old stuff

Today is Inspiration Monday!
When the ladies Megan and Nora of  Two Birds Boutique
choose an outfit to inspire a look.

Here's my version of the look.
To see how others styled it

inspiration monday: we're home!

Today's inspiration is:
who stars in The Carrie Diaries
(which is one of my new fave TV shows).

I also liked AnnaSophia Robb
in the 2007 movie Bridge to Terabithia,
which was based on
this book by Katherine Paterson.

Fabric pattern of blouses and sleeve details.
Yes, my blouse was thrifted.

My shoes and her shoes comparison.
Yes, my shoes were thrifted.

In January, my mom calls and asks me if I know anything about this new show about some teen girl, on Monday night. Oh, you mean The Carrie Diaries?

I tell her, Mom, it's already recorded on my dvr I read the book years ago. I even did this post, about The Carrie Diaries bookin January 2011. Well, I thought that  you would like that show she tells me. Yep I do.

Except
The Carrie Diaries is supposed to be set in 1984, and the show doesn't really keep true to the facts.

Like on the episode tonight, there was a guy in Carrie's high school hallway wearing a Guns and Roses: Appetite for Destruction t-shirt, and that album wasn't released until 1987.

However, a couple weeks ago, they talked about The Cars Heartbeat City album and played their song Drive. Which was actually released in 1984.
So, they got that detail right.

And while, I'm talking about old stuff,

Here's my old art journal page from May 2010

the carrie diaries

..."What if I'm a princess on another planet? And no one on this planet knows it?"

That kind of question still kind of blows me away. I mean, isn't it the truth? Whoever we are here,We might be princesses somewhere else. Or writers, or scientists, or presidents or whatever the h#ll we  want to be that everyone else says we can't...

Candace Bushnell, as a teen.

..."I guess I figured out awhile ago that most people  can't help what they do."..."And what they usually do doesn't have anything to do with you. I mean, people kind of instinctually do what's best for them at the time and think about the consequences later, right?"...
.

...How is this possible? How can a three month relationship end in less than fifteen minutes? But the world can change in seconds. There are sudden car accidents and deaths. They say you're luck if you know someone is going to die, because that way you have time to say goodbye...

...How can you be a feminist when you treat other women like dirt?...
from The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell
