pink flowers

Today's inspiration monday!

That's when the ladies Megan and Nora of Two Birds Boutique
choose an outfit to inspire a look.

Here's my version of the look.
To see how others styled it go to:
inspiration monday: sick kids and inventory.

Today's inspiration is:
Emmy Rossum

Yes, I am aware that I have very pale skin.
It is what it is.

My skirt and shoes were thrifted.

I did NOT know my husband was taking these photos.

I included them here, just for fun.

just like broccoli

When I was little my favorite vegetable was broccoli. Yes, I'm serious.
My vest was thrifted.

I liked when my mom cooked it in quiche,
 or broccoli chicken casserole.

I would also eat broccoli cooked
as a side vegetable.

My purse was thrifted.

My dad would put lemon juice on his broccoli.

My brother is the opposite of me.
He doesn't like vegetables.

Now I like to eat broccoli with rice,
on pizza, in pasta, or with rice wine vinegar.

Journal my friend made, and gave me for Christmas

I have never liked broccoli raw.

I think of an airplane flight when I was sitting next to a woman from Texas,
but she no longer lived there.

My art journal page from February 26, 2013

She told me she knew she was home when she looked out the airplane window and saw that the trees looked like broccoli.

Now I associate broccoli trees with Texas.
That's always stayed with me. Then I thought about when I felt like I was home.
When I looked out the airplane window and saw mountains.

dust and fuschia

..."How could it be pink? Pink. A pink sky.

A Girl Made of Dust by Nathalie Abi-Ezzi
I'm wearing my favorite thrifted dress.

Maybe it changed colour everyday so it was always a surprise when you woke up.
from book A Girl Made of Dust by Nathalie Abi-Ezzi

My mom made 2 out of the three bracelets I'm wearing.
My purse and my shoes were thrifted.

Everything else would be different too, trees would grow sideways and shed feathers instead of leaves,

the wind would tell you secrets as it blew,
roses would grow as big as houses, and there would be no war...

separated by type: watermelon and pumpkin seeds, pistachios, almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, peanuts, in their shells and out, roasted maize, and chickpeas coated with sugar...

My art pages were inspired by Lifebook 2013 class.

....Gazing at the shimmer of her silk shirt, I imagined Mami made of pearls: smooth polished face, smaller pearls for eyes, and a row for her toes...

Oh my gosh, Freddie Mercury's outfit in this video cracks me up! Another One Bites The Dust by Queen reminds me of my childhood. When they would play this song at the roller skating rink in Cal-Skate, California.

of stars with red and blue

Today my outfit is based on Style Imitating Art Challenge.
That's when Jess from Animated Cardigan choses a work of art,
 to inspire an outfit.

Here's my version of the look.
To see how others were inspired,
 go to:
Style Imitating Art: untitled.

Today's art inspiration is:
Olympics-Star:1992
by artist Sol LeWitt

I thought the lines in my skirt,
sort of mimicked the lines in the star.

My red skirt and my black boots were thrifted.

Now for some more red and blue fashion:

Anna Sui Spring RTW 2013
Can you see her star button?
Can you see the red tie has a guitar on it?
How about the heart bracelet?

Right: Betsey Johnson Spring RTW 2013

Those sunglasses, the jackets,
and the floral patterns are the best!

Anna Sui Spring RTW 2013
I adore the black lace detail on the back pockets,
the prints and the necklace!

Anna Sui Spring RTW 2013
I dig the clear clutch bag, and how it looks hand painted.
I also really like the hearts!

My art journal pages from
February 25, 2013

If you had told me five years ago that I was going to live in The Lonestar State, I would not have believed it. If you had told me at concerts that bands would sing:
"The stars at night are big and bright"
and have us, in the audience sing back,
"Deep in the heart of Texas"...
I would have been shocked.

Teenage me liked to look at the stars, and find the constellations:
The Big Dipper,The little dipper, and Cassiopeia. I thought I would like Astronomy class in college. No way!

It was too much math. I only passed it because my husband took it with me, and helped
.

Thank goodness for that. ;)

Now for the little stars in my life:

My nephew Speed Racer with his
 goldfish crackers.
Can you see the star shape on the bottom right photo?

Left: My nephew Baby JJ is standing
without an adult helping him.
Right: My twin nieces are trying to vacuum cause I told them they had to clean up the mess they made.

Now for my 11th favorite band Augustana:
from their All the Stars and Boulevards album.

...."Seems like I'm never coming home
Seems like I'm always on my oh..
All the stars and boulevards
 ain't close enough for you"...

I like to chew sugarless gum.
The gum flavors & brands vary, depending on my mood.
I think I learned how to blow bubbles in 3rd grade.
I've been snap, cracking, & popping gum since my friend Holly showed me how in 9th grade.

Two of my favorite people have birthdays this week, on the same day.

My nephew is one of those people.
My guy is the other one.

Last night one of my twin nieces
said my name on Skype.  :)

I really like Switched At Birth.
I learn new things every time I watch it.

In high school I was in the sign language club.
I got an A in the sign language class I took in college.
I'm still a sign language amateur.

This is the latest song I've been playing on my guitar.

Resonating excerpt from:
Once Upon A Time There Was You by Elizabeth Berg
..."You know who does loving right?"
"Who?"
"Nobody. I mean, people can't even...If you get a cat because you love cats, you're going to have plenty of days when you hate it because it's acting like a cat. Do you know what I'm saying?"
Sadie nodded.
"And when I was in high school I had a poem taped over my bed. I read it every day. It was about a person asking another person, over and over, 'What is two plus two?' and getting all pissed because the answer was always four."
"See that's why I don't like poetry. What does that even mean?"
"It means that some people are always going to think in a certain way. And they're never going to understand people who think so differently from the way they do. They can't. So it's best to stop asking for something someone simply can't deliver. Change the question."...

Can you guess what I did on the tag? I didn't exactly follow the rules, & I changed the question(s).
