old stuff

Today is Inspiration Monday!
When the ladies Megan and Nora of  Two Birds Boutique
choose an outfit to inspire a look.

Here's my version of the look.

inspiration monday: we're home!

Today's inspiration is:
who stars in The Carrie Diaries
(which is one of my new fave TV shows).

I also liked AnnaSophia Robb
in the 2007 movie Bridge to Terabithia,
which was based on
this book by Katherine Paterson.

Fabric pattern of blouses and sleeve details.
Yes, my blouse was thrifted.

My shoes and her shoes comparison.
Yes, my shoes were thrifted.

In January, my mom calls and asks me if I know anything about this new show about some teen girl, on Monday night. Oh, you mean The Carrie Diaries?

I tell her, Mom, it's already recorded on my dvr I read the book years ago. I even did this post, about The Carrie Diaries bookin January 2011. Well, I thought that  you would like that show she tells me. Yep I do.

Except
The Carrie Diaries is supposed to be set in 1984, and the show doesn't really keep true to the facts.

Like on the episode tonight, there was a guy in Carrie's high school hallway wearing a Guns and Roses: Appetite for Destruction t-shirt, and that album wasn't released until 1987.

However, a couple weeks ago, they talked about The Cars Heartbeat City album and played their song Drive. Which was actually released in 1984.
So, they got that detail right.

And while, I'm talking about old stuff,

Here's my old art journal page from May 2010

  1. Haha, I still haven't seen the carrie diaries yet but I wondered how that would go with them portraying the 80s. (That made me laugh pretty hard about the guns and roses shirt, someone didn't do their homework!) I'm always so impressed at the shoes you manage to thrift, those studded clogs are so fun and cool and that blouse! It made me think of Stevie Nicks and anything that gives off a Stevie Nicks vibe is awesome.

  2. I think you've done a lovely job with that outfit. the patterns, those shoes.. the similarity is obvious.
but I haven't seen The Carry Diaries and I'm afraid I will not even start with it because my show list is already way too long. and I haven't been a SATC fan either, to be honest.

  6. That blouse is totally perfect for this look and I love those skinnies on you! That's cute that your mom called thinking you'd like the show when you already watch it. I kind of want to watch this one! I never really got into sex and the city but this one just looks more interesting to me.

  7. I love that you noticed the inaccuracies of the show. Sometimes I notice stuff like that in movies and it totally wrecks them for me!

Your inspiration Monday outfit is pretty close, personally I prefer your blouse :)

  8. i'm guessing that we are not the typical age group who watches that show...therefore most people probably don't even know who the cars or gnr are!! anyways, your shirt is perfect for this inspiration, and your mom is a dear to call you just to let you know about that show!

  11. That's so sweet about your mom! My mom's always tellin' me about stuff she sees in stores that make her think of me. Like, flowy skirts, haha. That's pretty funny that you noticed the Guns N' Roses shirt. Very keen. ;)

Love this whole look, btw! I very much prefer your version to hers. :)

  15. You and your mom are totally adorable together! Good catch on the musical anachronism - aren't there website devoted to these?

  16. Good call on the GNR tshirt! You'd think a big tv show would have a better team of wardrobe researchers before they go and make a big mistake like that!
